On both ends of the court, freshman point guard Kyle Grisby has been an instrumental player this season—and his game only seems to get better.

Grisby scored 17 points in Wednesday’s home game and raked in six rebounds, leading the way to a 79-69 Milligan win over the Virginia Intermont Cobras. His impressive performance helped bring the Buffaloes’ record up to 10-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and 14-10 overall.

Head coach Bill Robinson says he is impressed with how Grisby is progressing this season.

“Kyle is playing really great,” Robinson said.  “He gives up a great deal of stability at the point guard position.”

Grisby was pleased with his play, as well as the play of his team.

“I am really getting used to the college game,” Grisby said. “I am getting people the ball when I need to and scoring when I need to.”

Four Milligan players scored in double digits. Grisby led the way with 17 points, sophomore Tyler DeVault bagged 14, and junior Hudson Fricke and senior Tim Harper both scored 10 points.

Sophomore Justin Sylvester and junior Marshall Hardy each had five rebounds.

Robinson noted DeVault’s contribution to the night’s game.

“DeVault gave us a big spark tonight,” said Robinson. “He is accepting his role on this team and is playing very good minutes for us.”

DeVault often waits on the bench behind his teammates, but said he doesn’t mind because they encourage him to play harder.

“I love playing behind (junior Cordero) Seymour and Hardy,” DeVault said. “When I come in, I need to play just as good as those guys, so they can get their rest.”

Robinson said he was worried about this game and excited to get the win.

“We keep fighting when we get down,” Robinson said. “Tonight was a very tough win against a good opponent.”

Robinson emphasized the need to keep the wins coming.

“A win is a win,” Robinson said. “It doesn’t matter if we win by two, or if we win by 10. We just need to keep this momentum going into the tournament.”

Milligan’s next game will be Feb. 12 at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse at 4 p.m. For more information on the men’s basketball team, go to www.milliganbuffs.com.
