The baseball team lost the final two games of its home opener to Shawnee State University on Sunday afternoon. The Buffs lost the first game 1-5 and the second 8-12.

Preseason All-American Jason Trivett, a senior, led the way for the Buffs allowing only six hits and two runs during the first six innings of the first game.

Sophomore Tyler Hutson, a catcher, earned the Buffs’ only run of the first game in the second inning with a solo home run.

Senior LA Owens from Dillon, S.C., pitched the first six innings of the second game of the double header.

Shawnee State scored two in the second inning, but Milligan fought back. Junior Bart Roark of Mountain City RBI in the bottom of the third tied the game at two.

Shawnee State took a strong lead, earning six runs in the top of the sixth.

Milligan’s offense picked up late in the second game, earning six of their eight runs in the final two innings.

Roark hit a double in the bottom of the seventh to bring in another run, followed by an RBI by junior Ryan White.

Senior Dustin Ford’s double and junior Corey Hilton’s three run homerun scored four for the Buffs in the final inning, but it was not enough for a victory.

Milligan’s record is now 2-12. Their next home games are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. against Emory and Henry.
