A Sub7 performance by 2010 Milligan College graduate Erin Aubrey wrapped up this year’s Welcome Week.
Milligan was the first stop of Aubrey’s brand new tour entitled “Slow It Down.”
An Elizabethton native, Aubrey currently resides in Nashville, TN where she works as a preschool teacher.
The name of her tour came from the title of one of her songs off her first album, “All These Ours.”
“I wanted to name my tour after my song ‘Slow It Down’ because it is a song that has been well received and I believe that not only in my life, but others lives as well, things are too fast paced and we don’t spend enough time just enjoying life and the company of others,” she said. “I want people to come to my show and have one night that they just slow down their life, listen to some good music and enjoy themselves.”
While planning her tour, Aubrey didn’t have to think twice about where her first show was going to be.
“Milligan is my favorite show to play because I get to play for all of my friends and family,” she said. “There’s always great energy when I play at Milligan and I always feel so comfortable.”
Aubrey was joined by her band, comprised of fellow Milligan graduateThomas Salyer, Joe Tounge and Grant Ebright.
“I have been playing with this band for the past six months and we basically play shows anywhere and everywhere we can. We’ve played shows at Hard Rock Café, bars, nursing homes and people’s houses and now we’re trying to play at a lot of colleges and target that audience,” she said.
Aubrey and her band were recently hired to be the house band at Mellow Mushroom in Franklin, TN playing shows every other Saturday night.
Aubrey not only credits her family and friends for their continuous support and encouragement, but she also appreciates the support she received from her professors at Milligan.
“The professors at Milligan definitely taught me how to have a strong work ethic,” she said. “They also taught me kindness and hospitality and because of the example that they set for me, I really try to reach out to my fans and develop personal relationships with them.”
Forming relationships with her fans is one thing that Aubrey believes is the key to her success.
“My goal isn’t really to get famous because if that was the goal I would probably always be disappointed,” she said with a laugh. “My goal is to use the talents that God has blessed me with and bring healing to the world.”
In addition to her passion for music, Aubrey is also using her tour as a way to raise awareness about the growing problem of human trafficking.
“There’s an organization that we’re working with called Stop the Traffik. We’ve partnered with an artist in Nashville who makes flower pots out of trash, symbolizing how the victims of human trafficking are often view as trash,” Aubrey said. “But it’s important to show that with God’s help those lives can be saved and turned into a beautiful piece of art.”
Upon her return to Nashville Aubrey plans to get back into the studio start working on her second solo album.
