What brought you to Milligan?
I came to Milligan because I wanted to be somewhere they were building up an economics department. It looked like a good opportunity to get with a growing program. (From Easton, Md.)
Do you have any kids, pets, etc.?
I have four kids, two daughters, two sons. Their names are Samantha, Jackson, Adam, and Mariska. My wife’s name is Ilviko and we have been married for 18 years. I also have two cats and a bird.
What are some of your interests outside of teaching?
I am a big cycling fan; I like watching the Tour de France. I teach a Sunday school class, like to listen to jazz music, and I like to go to different restaurants so I can try different ethnic foods.
Where do you teach your Sunday school class at?
Springdale Baptist in Kingsport.
What is something interesting about you?
Well, I ran for political office once. I ran for county council. It was in 1998 and I won the primary but lost the general election.
What would you say to a prospective freshman or other student thinking of going into an economics major?
Economics is more than just money. It’s the study of people and why they do the things they do, and if you want a better understanding of how they behave and want to use that information to best serve others, through the market place, than studying economics might be for you.
