Milligan College’s SGA Meeting on Thursday, March 15th covered topics including budget, elections, awards and announcements concerning this semester’s upcoming events.
The first main topics were the awards to be given out for the current year. Three awards were voted on by all SGA members. The awards are: SGA Faculty Award, SGA Staff Award and SGA Distinguished Service Award.
Shannon Slaughter, SGA president, said that these are awards are highly honorably and should be taken seriously when voted upon.
“I feel that we, as representatives of the SGA board, have all come to an agreement on who deserves these awards,” said Slaughter, “I will be proud to stand behind these decisions.”
Another topic discussed at the meeting was fundraising. A Milligan Fundraiser was held yesterday at Barberitos from 5 to 8 p.m,. as well as at Menchie’s 6 to 8 p.m. in Johnson City. This was a dinner and dessert fundraiser and students were encouraged to come with Milligan friends to help support the junior and senior class. Tickets were needed for Barberitos, but students just had to inform the staff at Menchie’s that they were a Milligan student.
Another fundraiser for the junior and senior class will be held on April 1 at Charming Charlie’s. Students can receive 20 percent off their purchase when they buy a ticket for $2. Ticket booths will be set up in the cafeteria during lunch and dinner.
The fundraisers will help support the senior banquet that will be held just before “That Big Party”, a black and white affair, which will be a banquet & dance on the night of April 20th from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. The entire night is free for seniors; tickets cost $20 for a single and $30 for a couple.
Eliza Davenport, SGA member of the junior class, said “That Big Party” will be a semi-formal event for all students to attend an unforgettable city style party.
“Seniors will then make their entrance into “That Big Party,” followed by a senior toast,” said Davenport. “There will also be heavy hord’oeuvres, dessert bar, rooftop dancing, and a DJ.”
At the close of the meeting, Slaughter announced that Milligan will be hosting another Blood Drive on April 4th. and that SGA will have a bill to sign next week at their last SGA meeting for the spring of 2012.
