When asked what is one thing Garland Young would change about his past, the recently appointed vice president for academic affairs and dean shows the optimistic attitude he possesses.

“I would have gone sky diving before I developed heart disease, but I feel great,” said Young. “I had heart surgery last summer and I feel great.”

Humbled to have a chance to serve Milligan, Young had a spiritual journey that took different twists and turns throughout his lifetime. As a teenager he felt a call to preach. When he was a sophomore in college this calling “morphed” into a call to teach and eventually into academic administration where he currently serves.

In his 26th year of higher education and not teaching, Young hopes to develop stronger relationships with students outside of the classroom. He believes this will be done through attending plays, ball games, concerts, chapel, and other campus events where more personal and friendly bonds can be developed.

More into the life of Young on Sept. 14th in the Stampede’s 1st TV show.
