Turnitin, a website with a feature called GradeMark, can assist instructors and students in writing papers. For instructors, Turnitin provides an option for grading students’ papers faster, keeping with the expectations of the grading rubric, and accurately checks for plagiarism. For students, it can create statistical graphs to highlight the areas needing improvement and provide feedback on their reports.
Turnitin contains over 90,000 literary data and a million instructors globally.
Senior nursing student, Devin Trivette, explains how beneficial this database would be for college students.
“I was unaware that there was even such a site that you could submit papers that would assist you in grammar and prevent you from plagiarism,” said Trivette. “I wish I would have known about this database before college, because it would have been extremely useful over the years of writing many term papers.”
Turnitin contains services for both students and teachers on the same site. The program helps students by identifying errors in their papers and offering corrections.
Not only is it an ecofriendly way for professors and students to grade or proofread papers by saving almost 11,000 trees in one year, but it is available to use 24/7. This allows instructors to use OriginalityCheck, GradeMark, and PeerMark to gather information needed for grading. Turnitin also provides tips on how to avoid even unintended plagiarism.
Though it is not a widely used program currently, it is something to keep in mind.
