Milligan’s men’s and women’s swim teams competed for the first time this season at Mars Hill College N.C. last Friday. The Buffaloes men’s totaled 64 points to place 2nd behind Mars Hill while the Buffaloes women’s placed 3rd behind Mars Hill women and Brenau University with points of 27 and 28 respectively.
Senior Evan Alfano clocked 28:44 in the men’s 50-yard breaststroke to place 2nd behind Audley Elders from Mars Hill who won in a time of 27:89.
“It was a good race, I noticed some things I can work on” Alfano said. “My start could have been stronger and my turn off the wall could have been tighter, however it’s the first meet so I’m not that worried about it.”
The Buffaloes did not have the best overall performance but some swimmers had a strong first meet showing. Freshman Mazie Siddens won the women’s 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.37 to out touch her competitors in the event.
Head coach Terry Caldwell said “we had a lot of really good swims, and unfortunately we had some not so good swims. We learned where we are and where we need to be going which will help us in our meets to come.”
Caldwell invited the Milligan community to support the Buffaloes who will return to action on Oct. 20 where they compete with King College and Mars Hill College at Bristol V.A.
