Milligan’s Student Development Department will be offering Strategies for Graduate School Acceptance, MLGN 320 next semester to assist students in their graduate school application process.
The class will prepare students for graduate school entrance exams and obtaining recommendations. Students will also participate in mock interviews.
“Milligan College wants to provide our students with the tools they need to make this important decision and to be successful in the process of choosing and being admitted to a graduate school program,” said Beth Anderson, director of calling and career exploration.
The general elective and half credit hour and class is mainly for juniors, but is open to any student wanting to apply for graduate school.
“The class is designed to walk students through the steps of considering programs, funding, testing, writing and interviewing that the graduate school process may require,” said Grete Scott, instructor of developmental studies.
It gives students the opportunity to research programs and determine which best fits their needs Scott added.
The class will be offered for the next two semesters, then it will be determined if it will be continue each semester or be offered once per year.
Several sections will be taught in the class and are assigned to different instructors.
Beth Anderson will instruct two sections: “What is graduate school education?” and “Graduate School Interview.” Courtney Kieslich, director of graduate and professional studies, will teach “The Successful Candidate.”
Dianne Keasling, coordinator of financial aid, will teach “Financial Aid. “
Cindy Wymer, director for testing, will teach “Testing Strategies for the GRE” and Scott will instruct “Writing for the graduate school application process.”
Anderson said the class is not required by students pursuing medical related degrees unless the graduate school program requires a GRE admission test.
The class will meet Fridays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. and will sometimes break from meeting for outside class work and activities.
