Welcome to this blog:
Some people are passionate about literature, others about history, animals, painting, cooking; the list goes on. I have come to find that I am most interested in the art of film. It is the one thing that I truly cannot get enough knowledge of. I am not a professional movie analyst, nor do I pretend to know all about film. I do, however, have an opinion; so I might as well share it. This is a blog about movies, not always criticizing them, but discussing them.
I am a lifelong student of film, because there will always be “new” (and I use that term loosely) works to think about. That is exciting to me. Therefore, I always encourage people I come into contact with to take some time to watch a movie. The movies can take you away from reality, if only for a little while. Let’s get right to it and talk about reasons to go see a movie in theater:
- The screen. Unless your screen is that big at home, seeing a movie on the big screen is way better. People have been flocking to see moving pictures since the late 1800s; it is human nature to be curious and entertained.

- Your friends will inevitably be talking about and/or quoting the movie and you will be sitting there with a glossy look in your eyes. I am not against the “don’t follow the crowd theory,” but I’m sure there are other things to withdraw yourself from than the movies. Come on, let’s boycott something else.

- You might learn something. I’m not saying what that something will be…. Follow your dreams? Second chances? The strength of friendships? Often times the protagonist will face trials through the duration of the movie, but at the end finds a sort of redemption. Most movies revolve around a main character, and we follow that character as he or she starts as defiant, moves to recognition, slides into acceptance, and ends the journey with change. Then again, it may be the only thing you learn is that the movie was no good. (But hey, you did learn something, didn’t you?)

- You can get the most delicious popcorn in the world (for the quality price of six dollars!) so don’t eat it all during the previews.
- Seeing a movie in a theater definitely adds to the experience. The comfortable padded seats, the aroma of the movie popcorn and candy, the sense of anticipation, the sticky floors, the little yellow lights that line the aisles, the surround sound. Are you convinced yet??

Movies are art, and the best part is, you do not even have to travel to a museum to see them. Listen, go see a movie, but be selective, not every movie deserves a $10 admission price (if I’m paying that much, it better be GOOD).
I leave you with a quote from Martin Scorsese.
“Any film, or to me any creative endeavour, no matter who you’re working with, is, in many cases, a wonderful experience.”
