Intramural basketball has finally resumed at Milligan College. Arguably our most popular intramural sport, basketball is the most competitive sport and draws the most campus-wide attention.
The season got off to a good start Tuesday, featuring eleven teams in one of the most competitive groups we have ever seen. Excitement sparked on campus when sophomore center Morgan McLeod announced he was quitting the Milligan basketball team to join redshirt junior Matt Goehner’s intramural basketball team (Just kidding, Coach Robinson).
However, basketball intramurals are an exciting time for the students to both compete and continue to grow as a Milligan family. The games are a great opportunity for Milligan students who are former athletes to get back on the court and enjoy the game we love. It’s not about impressing parents, coaches, or students as former athletes understand. Rather, it’s about competing and enjoying the game for what it is: bonding for you, your teammates, and opponents. It is also an opportunity to shake off the academic pressure for a little while and soak in some fun. Though no one is trying to earn a D-1 scholarship, the competition is nonetheless fierce. Make no mistake, students do appreciate intramurals for what they are, simply an opportunity to have fun and make memories.
