Spring is in the air…Well, snow is in the air, but some Milligan students might be already considering their options for next year’s housing arrangements. Where will you live? How much will it cost? What will you eat? How much will that cost? Do you need to get married to live in Married Student Housing?

The Stampede staff has gathered a group of commonly asked questions concerning 2013-2014 housing and meal plans. Director of Housing Kate Anderson has answered them.

Will students not living in The Village have to be on the full meal plan?

Students not living in the Village are required to be on the meal plan, unless they meet the criteria to not be. Students not exempt to go off the full meal plan by housing placement must fill out a meal plan exception form, which is reviewed by Mark Fox, director of student development. Students with local family and students with food allergies that cannot be accommodated by the cafeteria may be eligible for exception.

Will Married Student Housing only be opened to married students and graduates next year?

Yes.

How much does it cost to live in The Village?

The cost is $5,400 a year, which includes a modified meal plan.

What is the modified meal plan that will be offered to those living in The Village?

The modified meal plan covers 75 cafeteria meals each semester, which translates to about five meals a week. This specialized meal plan will only be offered to students living in The Village.

Can students living in The Village opt to be on the full meal plan? How much will that cost?

Yes. Living in The Village with a full meal plan will cost a total of $6,500. Switching from the modified meal plan to the full meal plan will add $1,100 to the cost of living in The Village, and no deduction will be accounted for when dropping the modified meal plan.

What qualifications must you meet to apply to live in The Village?

To apply, students must be a junior (58-91 credit hours) or a senior (92 credit hours and above) who have lived on a campus a year prior, and with no suspensions in the last year.

Students will apply as a five-person suite. There will be a tiered lottery. Groups with five seniors will be drawn first (lottery style with all the suites together and pulled at random) then groups with three to four seniors, and finally groups with less than two seniors until the suites are filled.

When are applications for The Village due? When will the lotteries take place?

Applications to live in the Village will be available after Easter Break on Tuesday, April 2. The applications will be collected Friday, April 5, and the lotteries will happen on Tuesday, April 9.

What are the options for people who apply for the village but do not get in? Do they get their next choice?

All of the housing applications are staggered, so if a student is not placed in The Village there is time for them to apply to Kegley, Quillen and Williams. After those are decided we will do housing lotteries for Webb, Sutton and Hart.

What are the details about the Living and Learning Communities (LLC)?

Two suites in The Village have been set-aside for the LLC – one for five women, the other for five men. Rising juniors and seniors could have applied individually to live in these suites by last Monday. LLC residents will enroll in a two credit hour class both fall and spring semester. The class focuses on Discipleship. The fall semester is spent learning about spiritual disciplines and spiritual formation as an individual, and the spring semester ties spiritual formation into the community. Students will eat one weekly meal together, go on a retreat and do a service project together. The goal of the LLC is to combine the learning that happens inside the classroom with what happens outside of the classroom.

*The deadline for LLC has already passed.

What will be the open dorm schedule for The Village?

Wednesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Friday-Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight

Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Break down of next year’s room and board costs:

Hart (double) – $6,300

Kegley, Quillen, Williams (double) – $6,500
