Not only has Milligan gotten a makeover recently with the addition of the new village, but we can also expect the addition of three new minors next year.
This fall Milligan will offer the new physics, international studies and social work minors.
“One reason I chose to come to Milligan was the opportunity to develop a physics program from scratch,” said Dr. Nathaniel Wentzel, assistant professor of physics. ”Fewer than 50 percent of physics teachers in high school have majored or minored in physics or physics education. Many of the rest have not taken physics beyond the introductory college level.”
Dr. Rebecca Sapp, assistant professor of counseling and psychology, was especially interested in the addition of the social work minor.
“Social workers strive to see the person in the environment and assess where and how to best intervene to improve the living conditions for the individual,” she said. “Therefore, one can see how this minor fits very well with the goals of Milligan College and will help develop servant leaders who will go out and work in the field of social work or a related field.”
Dr. Amy Edmonds Assistant Professor of Political Science felt there was a need for an internationals studies program for students at Milligan.
“I wanted to start this minor for students who are interested in international topics or can see themselves potentially working in an international sphere some day,” said Edmonds.
Not only are the Professors excited about this expansion, but also students.
“I am very excited about the new physics minor,” said sophomore Joe McMahon. “At first I was unsure about what I was going to do with a math major, but now with this I can expand my education.”
