Luis Trevino, President of the Milligan College Republicans, will be traveling to Nashville later this month for an opportunity that is once in a lifetime.
This past summer, Trevino had a passion to begin a College Republicans group at Milligan. Little did he know that there was one on campus, just not thoroughly organized.
With no active members nor Milligan being apart of the College Republican National Committee in the state of Tennessee, Trevino wanted to make a change.
The College Republican National Committee is the main College Republican Organization in the country and each state has their own branch of the organization. Tennessee has some of the most active College Republican chapters in the nation.
At the beginning of the school year, Trevino decided to take the organization into his own hands and make it an official group under SGA.
During Rush Day, Trevino recruited 30 members during the first sign up.
After accomplishing the recruitment process, Milligan College, for the first time ever, became an official chapter of the Tennessee College Republicans Committee.
Throughout the school year, Trevino has kept in constant contact with the President of the Tennessee College Republicans Committee Stephen Siao.
Siao has helped and supported the group from the beginning.
Last month, Trevino got a call from Siao asking if he was interest in being a part of the Executive Branch of the TNCR, specifically for the position of State Secretary.
“I was extremely surprised to say the least,” said Trevino. “I feel extremely honored and humbled to be presented with such a great title and opportunity.”
Siao explained how Trevino’s name was thrown around a few times within the committee speaking on how much great success the Milligan chapter has been.
Trevino accepted the offer, but desired to attain a few answers about the job and its description.
Siao took him step by step and explained everything and Trevino was more than convinced to take the position.
“Some people have told me it’s a reward for all the hard work I put into the Milligan group, but I say it’s a gift and a new challenge from God,” says Trevino. “There is still much more work to be done, and we are only getting started.”
Trevino will be officially appointed on April 27 in Nashville at the State Capitol Building during the Annual Tennessee College Republican State Convention.
