When President Greer was a sophomore at Milligan in 1982, he was asked out on a TWIRP date by a junior transfer named Ms. Young in his business law class.
Both business majors in accounting, Greer and Ms. Young molded a friendship through the many classes they had together that semester.
When TWIRP Week rolled around in October, Ms. Young asked Greer to attend the week’s main event, a concert in Seeger Chapel with contemporary Christian artist David Meece – who, according to Greer, was a big deal.
While Greer had been previously asked on several TWIRP dates the previous year, he admits to mostly only remembering this night in particular.
“That was our first date, “ he said of his time with Ms. Young, “and after that, I was brave enough to ask her out.”
Four years later in 1986, he married his TWIRP date: Edwina Young.
The two dated throughout his Milligan career and Greer waited almost a year and half after he graduated to seal the deal.
As their story is rare, marriage isn’t always the result of TWIRP Week, according to the president.
“I wouldn’t want to suggest that TWIRP week leads to marriage,” he said. “The main thing is to go out with somebody that you might not otherwise have gone out with. Just have a good time.”
