Milligan College installed the Paul Clark Chair of Teacher Education on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 during convocation.  Dr. Lyn Howell, associate professor of education, was announced as the first holder of this newly endowed chair.

President Bill Greer, Dr. Rich Aubrey, and Howell all spoke during the ceremony. All three spoke fondly of the chair’s namesake, Dr. Paul Clark, a former professor at Milligan.

When Howell was asked how it felt to be the first person to hold the new position, she stated she was “honored to be chosen to represent an amazing group of educators.”

During the ceremony, Howell was presented with an actual chair to symbolize the chair position she now holds.

“The chair is front and center in my office beside my 2.5 foot long, 18-inch tall buffalo,” said Howell.

Towards the end of the ceremony, Dr. Garland Young charged Howell with several duties.

“I take seriously Dr. Young’s charge and hope to represent well the legacy of Dr. Clark and the continuing growth of the education area,” said Howell.  “I hope to model servant leadership for our teaching candidates so that they will model it for their students.”
