On, Sept. 17, Milligan’s team won the Tim Kinder Memorial Golf Tournament at the Lakeview Club in Harrisburg, Va.

“Our challenge is to continue to improve while having success,” said Coach Tony Wallingford.

Milligan golfers rallied for a second-day win at the 18-team tournament hosted by Bridgewater College.

After the first day of the 36-hole tournament, the Buffs were four strokes off of first place. By the end of day two, they recovered for a win with a total of 579. Bridgewater College (Va.) finished second with a score of 583. Washington and Lee (Va.) finished third with a total of 590.

Wallingford noted that Whit Brown and Hunter O’Neal led the way, with Kody Fawcett, Mitchell Sutton and Nick Kyte coming in with solid rounds.

“I was very excited with our consistency, going low on day one, and following that round with an outstanding final round to win,” Wallingford said. “It was a very clutch performance.”

Finishing with a score of 69 on day one and a 71 on day two, Brown finished first overall.

“I played better on day one than day two,” he said. “I finished really well and birdied each of the four par 5’s on the back nine,” meaning he shot better than par for the last nine holes.

But he wished he shot straighter because he bogeyed the first hole on both days and would have liked to hit better.

In third for Milligan and 15th overall, Fawcett finished with a score of 74 on day one and 73 on day 2. He said the greens were really nice but the course wasn’t anything special.

“I didn’t hit well either day,“ he said. “I grinded and held the score together, though.”

Fawcett wants to avoid hitting four over par in his next tournament at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championships in Bristol, Va.
