President Bill Greer opened today’s convocation by announcing the first residence hall in Milligan’s new housing village will be named after Don and Clarinda Jeanes.

“It was such a dream of his that we expand housing and make that happen,” said Greer. “I just wanted him to be here to see it and not just have his name on it.”

Dr. Bill Greene, a Milligan trustee and chairman of BancTenn Corporation, donated money to the college, but didn’t want his name permanently etched upon one of the new residence halls. Instead, he asked that one be named in honor of Milligan’s late 14th president.

Greer said opportunities for naming the other halls in the village are to come.

“The village will add a whole new dimension to housing on campus,” said Greer.

Jeanes Hall will be unveiled this fall when upperclassmen will move into the facility alongside the other five buildings being built behind Hart Hall and Married Student Apartments. It will include three suites, a large community room and kitchen areas for the students.

Construction for the housing village has been underway since last summer. The site will include up to 12 buildings.
