Milligan’s baseball team hosted Virginia Intermont (VI) from Bristol, Va. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Anglin Baseball Field. A win Friday night gave Milligan its twelfth win of the season, improving its record to 12-13 overall.

A final score of 2-1 allowed Milligan to remain undefeated in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a conference record of 4-0. VI was Milligan’s second conference opponent.

The game was off to a slow start with the score tied at zero until the bottom of the seventh inning. Junior left fielder Ryan White was the first to score off of a double hit by senior center fielder Wesley Jones. A Milligan error at the top of the eighth inning let VI tie the score at 1-1. The winning run for Milligan came in the bottom of the ninth from senior second baseman Dustin Ford, driving in Jones. Ford has 14 RBI’s this season.

Junior Jordan Rawlyk was the starting pitcher and threw for eight innings and ended with five strikeouts. Rawlyk got the win and has a personal record of 2-3. Rawlyk was replaced by senior JJ Bergamin during the eighth inning.

“I felt great in the bullpen and knew what I had to do” said Bergamin.  “I’m always pretty fired up when I get the chance to come in and close a game” Bergamin was credited with his second save, and an overall 3-1 record.

Milligan ended the game with seven hits to VI’s two. Sophomore Tyler Hutson, freshman Luke Kirk, and White, all had singles. Jones and junior Corey Hilton both had doubles. Hilton leads the division in doubles with seventeen this season. Ford had two hits, a single and a double.
