MEN’S BASKETBALL WINS PIVOTAL GAME

By Logan Sweitzer

The Milligan men’s basketball team won a pivotal game Saturday at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, defeating the nationally-ranked Bryan College Lions 72-64.

With the win, the Buffaloes improved to a 9-1 record in the AAC and a 13-10 record overall. Milligan’s only loss in the AAC was to Bluefield College earlier this season.

Freshman Kyle Grisby led the way to Milligan’s victory, scoring 24 points and shooting 10 of 12 from the free throw line. Junior Hudson Fricke scored 19 points and senior Tim Harper led the team in rebounds with seven.

Grisby noted that his speed is a big asset on the court.

“I can get to a spot on the floor faster then anyone else,” Grisby said. “When they are doubling Fricke, it gives me the space to knock down shots.”

Milligan head coach Bill Robinson agreed that Grisby’s speed and awareness make him “very hard to guard.”

“He is so good at penetrating and being able to find the open man, or even finish himself,” Robinson said.

Grisby added that he was happy with the Buffaloes’ current momentum.

“We’ve really picked it up in this winning streak,” he said.

The Buffaloes have won eight of their last nine games, including the last four straight.

Milligan will end the season with four straight conference games. From there, the Buffaloes look forward to the postseason tournament.

“This is a huge step for us as a team,” Robinson said. “I like where we are headed with only four games left in the regular season.”

Milligan will play tomorrow against Virginia Intermont College at 7:30 p.m. in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. For more information on Milligan College basketball, visit www.milliganbuffs.com.
