A prayer service held today, Aug. 27, 2012, in Seeger Chapel honored Dr. Donald R. Jeanes, Milligan’s 14th president.
Jeanes passed away in his home unexpectedly early Monday, Aug. 27. Brad Wallace, campus minister, led the service with scripture and prayer.
“Today is a sad day for our community as we mourn the loss of a great leader and friend,” Wallace said.
Milligan’s current president, Dr. Bill Greer was unable to attend the ceremony, because he is returning from Ohio where he was visiting churches and donors. However, he apologized for his absence in an e-mail addressed to all Milligan students and faculty.
“Don was my mentor, my friend, my closest confidant. Rarely did a week go by that I did not talk to Don. He understood, more than anyone else, the challenges and joys of being Milligan’s president. I will miss him enormously,” said Greer.
Wallace prayed for the Jeanes family, and allocated special times of silence to pray and reflect upon his great achievements to Milligan College.
Visitation for Jeanes will be held at First Christian Church in Johnson City from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
A Celebration of Life service will follow on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel.
