Milligan’s athletic facilities received a “facelift” this past summer. Changes were made to the soccer fields, basketball court at the field house, weight room, swimming pool, and cross country course.
President Bill Greer described the fieldhouse as “more inviting.”
“We tried to help improve the look of our facilities to increase pride in our athletes and fans,” Greer said.
The changes have not gone unnoticed, especially by Milligan’s soccer teams who have experienced improved turf and more school-spirited signs.
Senior soccer player, Rusty Baxter, said, “The grass is a lot greener and the field drains a lot better.”
Although Baxter is thankful for the updates, he would like to see “permanent seating” installed on the bank above the soccer fields.
Athletics Director Ray Smith explained how the new improvements came about and had good things to say about the new changes.
“Our athletes have been blessed with some of the best athletic facilities in our conference, thanks to the forward thinking of Dean Fox and President Greer,” Smith said.
According to Greer, changes were made possible because of Milligan’s various funding programs as well as the impact The University of Tennessee’s football team had during the week they rented out Milligan’s campus.
“UT’s team really worked hard to respect our facilities,” Greer stated.
Big changes have taken place, but Greer and his staff are always making plans for new changes for facilities throughout campus.
Changes to look out for in the next few years include more improvements to the baseball field and the addition of a track.
