Milligan College and Emmanuel Christian Seminary started talking seriously over the summer about joining arms.
Although separate institutions, Milligan and Emmanuel share a common history.
Emmanuel originated on Milligan’s campus in 1965 and is a Stone-Campbell, “Graduate Christian seminary committed to the lordship of Jesus Christ, the authority of Scripture, and to the vision of the unity of world Christianity.”
President Bill Greer says he is in frequent contact with Emmanuel’s president, Michael Sweeney, and future plans of joining together started being considered in July 2012.
“It’s a slow process,” Greer said. “We are considering if some sort of operational relationship would benefit Milligan College while at the same time helping Emmanuel.”
Milligan and Emmanuel both share supporting churches and donors. However, Emmanuel has its own board of directors and trustees, faculty and staff.
Factors taken under consideration include finances, school procedures, and whether or not the two schools would be a good fit.
Greer emphasized how slow a process this could end up being, but did say that “options are being considered.”
