The Student Nursing Association at Milligan College celebrated Halloween by gathering candy for The Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Student Nurses Association (SNA) is an organization on Milligan’s campus that provides fellowship and student support for those in the nursing major. By showing Christ-like behavior, this organization provides services and health promotion activities to the Milligan community.
The SNA collected candy/monetary donations and Halloween decorations for Niswonger Children’s Hospital. There were boxes set out in the library for people to place candy or donations in.
Tiffany Weinbender, senior nursing major and SNA Treasurer, said that the SNA at Milligan is trying to make hospitals more cheerful with Halloween decorations and candy for the children.
“The candy drive is our way of helping the children who are at Niswonger Hospital during Halloween still be able to celebrate with some treats,” said Wienbender.
The Niswonger Children’s Hospital assists more than 200,000 children in the area. It is one of six St. Jude Affiliate Clinics.
The purpose of the SNA candy drive was to give the children something to brighten their day.
Devin Trivette, a senior nursing student, contributed a bag of candy to the drive.
“The nursing students volunteer to be participating in the Halloween drive,” said Trivette. “We will do our best to help the children’s hospital.”
Weinbender said most people donated candy not money.
“We ended up opening the bags of candy and filling latex gloves with candy and small toys for the kiddos,” Weinbender said in an email.
Wenbender also said, the hospital also asked for other items such as construction paper, toys and crayons so there were 3 bags of those items as well.
