Students waited anxiously last Friday to see the official cast list for this spring’s production of “The Odyssey” and got right to work Monday with their first of 23 rehearsals.
“I first saw this show 25 years ago and, at the time that I saw it, I thought, ‘I’m going to direct that play someday,’” said Director Dick Major. “I love doing projects like this that tie into, educationally, another part of what we do on this campus. All freshmen fall semester study ‘The Odyssey.’”
Major said this play is a collaborative process with about 45 people in the cast including students, faculty and staff.
“During the read-through, everything clicked and I’m really excited about the cast we have,” said Jonathan Mehl, a junior cast as Telemachus. “Everyone really locked into their parts and the level of emotion and energy was really high.”
“The Odyssey” will preview on April 10 and run April 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gregory Center. A matinee will be performed on April 14 at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets go on sale Monday, April 1 in the bookstore at $5 a seat.
“It’s going to be ‘The Odyssey’ like you’ve never seen it,” said Major.
