Disappointed that you cannot use your Starbucks gift card to pay for your favorite coffee drink in the grill?
Here is why:
Mark Henry, director of foodservice at Milligan College, said, while the grill is licensed to sell certain company products, it is not owned by the Starbucks corporation, therefore cannot accept company gift cards.
“[The shop] is just like the ones in Barnes and Noble,” explained Henry.
Like Milligan’s foodservice, Barnes and Noble bookstores, are only licensed to sell certain company products.
These stores are also not allowed to sell Starbucks pastries, according to Henry. The display case at the grill counter is filled with baked goods purchased through Pioneer College Caterers’ suppliers. Henry said he and Corey Edmundson, assistant foodservice director, tried to choose desserts that looked like those of Starbucks.
“Our goal is to try to get it to look as close to Starbucks as we can,” said Henry.
Licensed shops are allowed to sell retail items such as coffee grounds and mugs seen in stand-alone Starbucks shops. Shelving to house retail may be added to the on-campus shop in the future.
If Pioneer can work out a way to order Starbucks seasonal drinks, students will be able to purchase them as the holiday season roles around.

Though this focus was not the intent of the reporter, it became the focus after edits. The Stampede hopes this article clears the air about why the Milligan coffee shop does not accept gift cards.
