Students who stay on campus this fall break will have to eat in their room or venture off campus to find food.

The Cafeteria & Grill will close after lunch on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. The Cafeteria will reopen for dinner on Sunday, October 13 from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. The Grill will reopen for breakfast Monday, October 14 at 7:30 a.m.

“We are contracted to feed a specific number of days in a semester,” explained Mark Henry, Directory of Food Services, “so Milligan and Pioneer sit down to discuss which days it is necessary to be open.”

Milligan holds a contract with Pioneer College Caterers. According to their website, Pioneer is the largest contract food service management company catering exclusively to Christian colleges and universities coast to coast.

Holidays such as fall break, spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas cause low-student count across campus. The cafeteria and grill are closed during these breaks to reduce the waste of food and money. School holidays also give employees a needed break as well.

“There are some Holidays where there are more people still on campus, so we stay open,” says Henry. “Easter would be one of those.”

For students staying on campus this fall break there are alternative ways to find food.

Students can use The Well discount card they were given at the beginning of the semester at 10 different restaurants. Applebee’s has “Half-Price Appetizers” from 10 p.m. to close every day of the week. Subway offers “$5 Footlongs” and $4 lunch “Any Time. Every Day.” This includes a 6 inch sub plus a 21 ounce drink. Do not forget a 12 pack of Ramen Noodles is less than $2 with tax at Walmart

Milligan Stampede staff wishes you a happy fall break.
