The Milligan College International Justice Mission (IJM chapter) will be calling on Tennessee State Congressional members to take a stand against the increasing global human trafficking issue on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

As part of a national IJM “#1Step1Voice” campaign, Milligan IJM members will make phone calls to the offices of Tennessee Congressional members and urging them to co-sponsor the Human Trafficking Prioritization Act (HTPA). The HTPA Bill is intended to make the abolition of modern slavery a top “foreign policy priority,” according to IJMs website.

Milligan IJM President Sarah Underwood says Tennessee State Representatives have co-sponsored the bill, but neither Bob Corker nor Lamar Alexander, Tennessee’s State Senators, have co-sponsored the bill.

The calling campaign is opened to all of campus and will be held in SUB7 from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Individuals may take part by visiting freedomcommons.ijm.org and clicking on the “#1Step1Voice” tab.

Tuesday night’s event will also include a prayer station and a Lily House merchandise table. Lily House is an organization based in the Dominican Republic that sells jewelry made by women rescued from sex trafficking. Proceeds fund the Lily House outreach ministry that helps restore the lives of the rescued women.
