Senior Reflection: Jeremy Greer
Everyone talks about how much they love college. My four years at Milligan have made me feel the same way. I came in as an 18-year old freshman hoping to become a physical therapist. Yet as I built friendships with the people around me, I began to realize that the college experience involves more than just going to class. My freshman year, I spent the majority of my time helping out with the basketball team. Through this experience, I built relationships with guys who are some of my best friends today. This also led to me playing on the JV basketball team for the rest of my college career.
In between my freshman and sophomore years, I met an incoming student named Allie. My dad met her before I did, and he immediately told me I should pay attention to her because she was coming “without baggage.” Luckily, I listened to my dad and we began dating in July of that summer. As my sophomore year progressed, I decided to change my major to biology with the hopes of attending medical school after graduation.
In between my sophomore and junior years, I went on the humanities tour to Europe. I highly recommend this trip because this is where I made some of my fondest memories as a Milligan student. One in particular was staying at the haunted Hand Hotel in Wales. Needless to say, staying there led to a very interesting, sleepless night. Thankfully, we all made it back safe and sound, which allowed me to experience my favorite year as a student here. This was in large part to our late night shenanigans, which mainly included throwing water balloons around campus — hopefully people on the receiving end enjoyed it as much as we did…
After my junior year, I applied to the medical school at ETSU and was accepted this past fall. This acceptance set some things in motion, most notably in my love life. Since I knew I would be staying around the area, I felt that it was time to propose to my girlfriend Allie. This went down during our most recent snowstorm, on January 28th. Lucky for me, the friends I have made here helped make the occasion run smoothly.
One thing I love about Milligan is how friendly the whole community is, which was evident in my proposal. As I got down on one knee, I couldn’t help but notice the large audience that had appeared both on the village balconies and in the dorm windows. It was great to receive this support from my fellow classmates, and it made me proud to be a Buffalo. Through all my experiences here, and all the friendships I have made, Milligan has prepared me for the next chapter of my life. I will spend the next four years of my life at ETSU, but I will always be a Milligan Buffalo.
