Creeking is a beloved tradition here at Milligan College. If you get engaged to your significant other while at this school, it’s very likely that a surprise creeking may happen to you.

Here’s what you can expect: Your friends will plan a time of attack, bind your wrists, throw you in the back of a car and drive around campus disturbing every poor sleeping soul the horn’s blows reach. After you finally realize what’s happening, they take you to Buffalo Creek, untie you, and toss you into the shallow end, hoping they won’t fall in as well.

Although this may sound like quite a scary event and rather rude at that, it’s one you’ll never forget in your college career.

Looking back about 60 years ago, we see the tradition was alive and well. Dr. Patricia Magness, interim director of the Goah Diversity Scholars Program, and her husband Dr. Lee Magness were both creeked in the same fashion as was your best friend or senior suitemate. The group that creeked the Magnii waited for the two to arrive at the steps of Hart Hall one evening. With dual success, the newly engaged couple was soaked from head to toe before they had a chance to scream for help.

Milligan creekings are a way to announce the future union between two people to the campus. The creek awaits the arrival of a select few each year as spring rolls around. With today being the national holiday of love, do you know of anyone who is ready to be part of history?
