A wave of vandalism hit Milligan College that left windows in shambles at the cafeteria annex and other damage inside and outside both Quillen and Webb dormitories on Sunday morning, Feb. 16.
Kenneth Broyles, facilities service manager, called the Elizabethton Police Department and Officer Kenneth Lowe arrived soon after 12:15 p.m. He found four busted windows and cut screens at the annex and what appeared to be a blood spatter on the glass window of the door.
Broyles directed the police to Quillen Hall where peanut butter was spread on the walls and more window screens cut. EPD Detective Joe A. Harrah interviewed the dorm residents for information and is continuing the investigation.
Police interviewed Quillen resident James Douglas Elliot about the incident. Elliot’s roommate, Bryan Christopher White, said he heard loud noises coming from the halls of Quillen around 1:30 a.m.
The total damages were $2,320, according to the police report.
Additional vandalism, which was not on the police report, was found in Quillen and in the basement of Webb Hall. Human excrement was found spread on the walls of the main lobby bathroom in Quillen, and paint was smeared all over the basement walls in Webb.
It is unknown whether this vandalism is connected with the breaking of the cafeteria windows.
Mark Fox, dean of students, has removed open dorm privileges from Quillen and Webb indefinitely.
“Visitation is a privilege that can be taken away and for some period of time and they have lost that privilege,” Fox said. “It is incumbent on the people that live in there and how they respond, to how quickly they can earn that privilege back.”
Milligan President Bill Greer addressed the Milligan community through an email on Feb. 17, the day after the incident.
“I am appealing to you, the campus community, for help,” Greer wrote. “I ask that each and every one of you join us in bringing an end to senseless vandalism by keeping your eyes and ears open.”
