You may have noticed a few more people carrying water bottles around campus recently.  No, it’s not because they are thirsty, its because Gotcha season has started again.  This Gotcha game, though, is different from the one we are used to seeing.

“Team Gotcha is almost the same as regular Gotcha, but in Team Gotcha you are strongly encouraged to have alliances,” said Justin Timmins, Gotcha coordinator and judge.  “We have seen a lot of positive feedback from this. It’s a new game so there are a few spots that have not gone so smoothly, but that’s expected with something new like this.”

Timmins was also able to say that they expect to keep doing Team Gotcha every fall semester.

Brandon Jones is the holder of most kills (19) at this point in Team Gotcha.

“I think hands down it is better than the regular form of Gotcha,” said Jones.

He says it is so intense with having teams and it also being a free for all.

“At first I allied with the team Frisky Nixons, and after that all I wanted to do is not get out,” said Jones.

Jones said the best advice he could offer to anyone thinking about playing is to “watch you’re back at all times.”

Not everyone thinks this form of the game is the most ideal.

Aaron Hudnall holds the record for most “gets” (19) in the regular form of Gotcha.

“I feel that Team Gotcha is a little bit more unorganized, and a little more chaos with it being a free for all and this causes problems with the witnessing,”  said Hudnall. “I would choose regular Gotcha every time.”

However, Hudnall would like to see Team Gotcha keep happening every year.

“Even though there has been some complications with it this far, I would really like to see it come back next year, and see if it could possibly be better than regular Gotcha,” said Hudnall.
