As of Nov. 29, $2,018 have been raised for Chris Shaw. Fundraising efforts are continuing on campus.
Students are doing more than praying for Chris Shaw, sophomore, after his recent diagnosis of Lymphoma.
Last night, Vespers sponsored a benefit concert for Shaw. Several students led worship while those attending were encouraged to send Shaw a video message. In addition to that, students bought bracelets reading “Stand Tall for C. Shaw,” highlighted their favorite verses in a Bible and wrote him encouragement notes in a journal, both to be sent to Shaw.
Free refreshments were given out and donations were encouraged.
Sophomore Zach Maclellan is a friend of Shaw and was the first to approach Vespers with the idea of having a benefit concert.
“It makes our community realize the effects of cancer and brings us together to support a brother who’s hurting,” Maclellan said.
Maclellan wanted others to know that Shaw hasn’t been informed of the financial donations being made and it still remains a secret.
Maclellan also wants Milligan’s community to know that “Chris is healing.” Shaw has been released from the hospital and is now receiving treatment at home.
Although exact numbers have not been revealed yet, over $649 was made during the concert from donations alone. There were about 40 students in attendance.
Along with the benefit concert, other activities during Res Life Week have donated money to Shaw’s family. Maclellan said they’re expecting well over $1,000.
Senior Tyler Brackins came to show his support.
“This event shows how powerful Milligan’s community is to come together in this time of trial to life up our friend, Chris,” said Brackins.
Vespers Committee plans on sending the video clips, journal, Bible, and financial support to Shaw’s family sometime this week and encourages others to continue praying for the Shaw family.
