Last week’s storm brought flooding to our area, leaving some students with leaky roofs, other students wondering if they would be able to practice, and also causing construction on the Milligan Village to slow down.

“I was really amazed at the amount of water, and trash that was going over the bridge when I pulled up,” said Christian Brewer a sophomore from Knoxville, Tenn. “I had never seen anything like that.”

Brewer also mentioned while he was at the bridge there were many other students out witnessing the power of the floodwaters. The bridge’s flooding even caused the back exit from Milligan’s campus, part of the Milligan Training Loop, to be closed.

“I also became worried about the Milligan Training Loop because it was beside Buffalo Creek. Being a runner that is where we do a lot of our workouts.  I knew once I saw the amount of water going over the bridge that there was no way I was going to be able to get across,” said Brewer.

Brent Nipper, Director of Property and Risk Management, said, “We were very fortunate that no significant damage occurred as a result of the rainfall.  There was some minor roof leaks reported, which have already been addressed.”

Nipper was also able to inform what affects the rain had on the progress of the new Milligan Village.

“Milligan Village construction project slowed down quite a bit due to the rain and wet conditions making excavating and grading work nearly impossible,” said Nipper. “Even though the rain did slow down work outside, they were able to continue progress on the inside.”
