Since 2003, Youth in Ministry Student Leadership Conference has hosted 515 students. Of these students, 109 have matriculated with Milligan. Fifty-eight YiM alumni are currently on campus serving in multiple ways.
YiM has made a significant impact on Milligan College such as increased enrollment. Sixty-eight percent of high schools students graduating in 2012 that had attended YiM, matriculated with Milligan. In the last five to six years, we have averaged 40-50 percent enrollment.
“YiM has greatly improved the Milligan College community by delivering students who are trained and equipped to lead and to take the student body to a deeper spiritual level,” said Dr. John Paul Abner, Associate Professor of Psychology and Counseling.
YiM alumni attending Milligan College are more deeply involved in ministering to children, middle school and high school students in area churches. These experiences are vital to their preparation as servant leaders.
YiM alumni are often awarded Milligan’s highest academic and merit scholarships. One of the most prestigious awards is given for servant leadership. YiM alumni have received this award three of the last four years.
Junior Nathan Hall and Senior Greg Gibson attended YiM in high school before coming to Milligan.
“Attending YiM in high school was a big reason why I decided to attend Milligan,” said Hall. “I was able to meet and spend time with some professors as well as spend a week living on campus. YiM and Milligan also share in Milligan’s mission statement which is ‘Building young servant leaders for Christ’.”
“YiM showed me that I can still minister to people even though I do not feel called to work in a church,” said Gibson. “It was also really cool to spend a week living on campus and sleeping in the dorms. It was a small glimpse of what being a Milligan student is like.”
