Students celebrated Milligan’s annual holiday known as “Wonderful Wednesday,” except in this case it was a “Terrific Tuesday.”
During this day undergraduate classes are cancelled and students enjoy the warm weather and activities that are brought to campus. This year’s activities included a zip line, a petting zoo, laser tag, intramural games and the traditional waterslide near Buffalo Creek.
The day is organized solely by the Campus Activities Board, a team made up of staff and students who work throughout the year to prepare for the event.
“The goal of the day was to have everyone take a day away from the stress of classes to just unwind and enjoy each other,” said CAB member Anna Lennox.
Seniors Kelly Devault and Helen Biard were in charge this year. As they are both seniors, this event meant a lot to them.
“In my opinion this year’s ‘Wonderful Wednesday’, or ‘Terrific Tuesday’ as it were, was a little more laid back from previous years,” said Biard.
“Wonderful Wednesday” dates back to 1969 when Milligan students were relieved from classes for a day of games and picnics.
“It’s so fun to see what new things they bring to campus every year, and just get to hang out with everyone all day,” said sophomore Shelby Esterle.
The surprise day is held any day of the week in April. As a result, rumors of its coming often circulate through the student body.
“We met the night before to construct the cafe decorations; it took about four hours to complete,” said Lennox. “While we were working in the cafe, people kept crowding in the lobby to get a view of what we were doing, so we really had to sneak around.”
“’Wonderful Wednesday’ is just a great way to bring students together and fully appreciate the Milligan community for a day,” said sophomore Austin Chhut. “My favorite part is seeing the excitement of the freshmen who haven’t experienced it before.”
President Bill Greer said in a press release that the event is a great community builder for the college.
