Yesterday marked the opening of TWIRP Week, an annual campus tradition in which women are required to ask men out and pay for their date.

This year during TWIRP Week, Milligan’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) has something new planned for each weekday night.  TWIRP stands for, “The woman is required to pay,” though this week’s on-campus events are free of charge.

CAB threw a “Beach Night” at the sand volleyball court next to Hart last night. Dates had fun playing volleyball, having hula contests and eating free food.

Tonight, friends will enjoy getting off campus and tasting desserts from different stores around Johnson City. Restaurants like Mid-City, Frozyo and Brew Plum Coffee Bar are offering discounts to Milligan students who want to try desserts from local stores. The event is called “The Dessert Crawl.”

CAB will be showing The Muppet Movie at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night for the “Screen on the Green” event held on the lawn behind the Gregory Center.

The Milligan Jazz Band will be preforming for a coffee and sweets social by the Buffalo Creek Gazebo for the “Jazz and Sweets at the Creek “ event on Thursday from 9-10:30 p.m.

Friday night’s Sadie Hawkins dance is the culmination of TWIRP Week. The dance will be held in the Student Union Building from 9-11 p.m. To change things up, CAB has added an 80s and 90s theme to the dance.

Even if you do not have a date for TWIRP Week, Residence Director Kristal Dove says that is no problem.

“We want everyone to feel welcome,” said Dove.
