A recently published book titled “Milligan College” has timed its arrival on campus to parallel the inauguration of Dr. Bill Greer, the college’s 15th president.
Jan Loveday was prompted to write the book after the announcement of Don Jeanes’ retirement last spring. Loveday is the director of graduate admissions for the teacher education program for non-traditional students.
“About this time last year, when Don Jeanes announced his retirement, I decided that this would be a perfect time to be able to celebrate Milligan’s history and honor him and all that he has done for the college,” Loveday said.
The book tells the story of Milligan by using over 200 black-and-white photographs and captions.
The book took six months to complete and was finished last spring. “Milligan College” was published by Arcadia Publishing’s campus series and was released on Monday.
Michelle Ramsey, a senior business major and cheerleader , believes that “Milligan College” is an important book for faculty and students alike.
“I do not know much about the history of Milligan College, but I definitely want to learn about it. I think students need to know Milligan’s background and the foundation of our Christian education that has been taught over the years,” she said.
President Bill Greer is excited about the book’s publication and its effect on the Milligan community, specifically alumni.
“In the midst of a change in leadership, there is a natural tendency to look forward and to focus on what is next for the college,” Greer said. “So, it is wonderful that we have this way to look back and celebrate our history and our heritage. It is coming at the perfect time.”
Jan Loveday’s book “Milligan College” will be available in the Milligan College Bookstore or online at www.amazon.com.
Book signings will take place during Milligan’s Homecoming celebration on Oct. 29. Part of the proceeds from the book will go toward the Jessi Bryant Assistance Fund, which assists the early childhood education degree completion program.
